Looking for weight loss help in Miami, Florida, or anywhere else in the state? Telemedicine lets you be evaluated by a licensed provider without leaving home. Florida law allows telehealth care under the same standard as an in-person visit, and you can check any provider's license online in minutes. Forever Health Rx is 100% online: there is no clinic to visit.

Key takeaways

  • Florida Statutes section 456.47 allows licensed professionals to care for Florida patients through telehealth, held to the same standard of care as in-person care.
  • Providers generally need a Florida license, a multistate compact license that covers Florida, or a Florida registration as an out-of-state telehealth provider.
  • You can verify a license for free on the Department of Health's license search.
  • An online evaluation is a real medical review. It may or may not end in a prescription, and it is never guaranteed.

Why people in Miami and across Florida choose online care

Traffic on I-95, long waits for an appointment, a schedule that does not leave room for an office visit: these are some of the reasons people in Miami-Dade, Broward and the rest of Florida may look for weight-loss care online. Telemedicine removes the commute. You answer questions about your health on your phone or computer, a licensed provider reviews them, and follow-up happens through a secure patient portal.

What telemedicine does not remove is the medical part. A legitimate online service still asks about your health history, your current medications and your goals, and a licensed provider still decides what, if anything, is appropriate for you.

Forever Health Rx is a telemedicine platform only. We do not have a clinic in Miami or anywhere else, so there is no office for you to visit. The service is currently available in .

How telehealth works under Florida law

Florida's telehealth rules are in section 456.47 of the Florida Statutes. In plain language, the statute covers a few points that matter to patients.

What counts as telehealth. The law defines telehealth as the use of synchronous (live) or asynchronous (store-and-forward) telecommunications technology to provide health care services, including assessment, diagnosis, consultation, treatment and monitoring. Email messages and faxes are not included.

Same standard of care. A telehealth provider must practice within their scope of practice and meet the prevailing professional standard that applies to in-person care in Florida. An online visit is not a shortcut around good medicine.

An exam is not automatically required. If the provider's evaluation is sufficient to diagnose and treat you, the law does not require a physical examination before care is provided through telehealth. That is a clinical judgment, and a provider can always ask for more information first.

Who may treat you. Professionals licensed in Florida, or licensed through a multistate compact that Florida belongs to, can provide telehealth to patients located in Florida. A professional licensed only in another state may do so after registering with the applicable Florida board (or the Department of Health if there is no board), and a registered out-of-state provider may not open an office in Florida or see Florida patients in person.

Records. Telehealth visits must be documented in your medical record to the same standard as in-person visits, and those records are confidential under Florida law.

How to verify a provider license in Florida

Checking a license takes a few minutes and costs nothing.

  1. Ask for the provider's full name and license type. A legitimate service shares who is reviewing your case.
  2. Search the Florida Department of Health. Use the free Verify a License tool from the Division of Medical Quality Assurance. You can search by name or license number.
  3. Check the status and discipline. The results show the license status and whether any discipline or public complaint is on file.
  4. For out-of-state providers, look for the registration. The same search includes an "Out-of-State Telehealth Providers" category. Florida law requires the Department of Health to publish registered out-of-state telehealth providers, including their Florida telehealth registration number and five-year disciplinary history. The Florida Telehealth page explains the program. Some nurses practice under a multistate compact license, which the Department of Health points you to verify through Nursys.

If a site will not tell you who the provider is, or you cannot find the provider's license or registration, treat it as a red flag. Our guide on how to spot a legitimate online GLP-1 provider lists more warning signs, from "no visit required" to unlabeled vials.

What the online evaluation involves

A provider-guided online evaluation for weight management usually follows the same steps, whether you live in Miami Beach, Orlando or the Panhandle.

Step What happens Who does it
Health questionnaire Height, weight, health history, current medications, allergies, goals You, online
Provider review Checks eligibility, contraindications and possible interactions; may ask follow-up questions or request labs A licensed provider
Decision Explains whether a GLP-1 medication may be appropriate, or recommends another path A licensed provider
Pharmacy If prescribed, a licensed pharmacy dispenses and ships the medication A licensed pharmacy
Follow-up Questions, side effects and adjustments through the patient portal You and your care team

Two FDA-approved weight-management medications, Wegovy® (semaglutide) and Zepbound® (tirzepatide), are indicated, among other uses, for adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related condition, together with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Both labels include a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodents (it is unknown whether this happens in humans), and neither should be used by anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. That is why an honest health history matters. Read the full safety information on our semaglutide and tirzepatide pages.

For a closer look at each step, see what happens in your online visit. If you are still weighing the two medications, our semaglutide vs. tirzepatide guide compares them side by side.

Cost and what to ask before you pay

Online weight-loss care in Florida usually has two parts: the visit and, if prescribed, the medication. Ask whether the visit fee is separate, what happens if no prescription is written, and whether the plan is a subscription you can cancel. Our guide to what GLP-1 treatment costs online explains each piece, and current Forever Health Rx prices are always on the semaglutide and tirzepatide treatment pages.

When to seek care right away

Telemedicine is not emergency care. If you have severe abdominal pain that does not go away, signs of an allergic reaction, trouble breathing or thoughts of harming yourself, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. You can report side effects to FDA MedWatch at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Getting started from anywhere in Florida

If you live in Miami or anywhere else we serve, the first step is a short online health assessment. A licensed provider reviews it and lets you know whether GLP-1 treatment may be a fit. If you want to know what providers look at first, read am I a candidate for GLP-1?. Submitting an assessment does not guarantee a prescription, and results vary from person to person. When you are ready, start your health assessment.

Talk it through with a licensed provider

Your evaluation is 100% online. A licensed provider reviews your health history and decides whether treatment is medically appropriate. Submitting an evaluation does not guarantee a prescription.

Frequently asked questions

Is online weight-loss care legal in Florida?

Yes. Florida Statutes section 456.47 allows licensed health care professionals to provide services through telehealth, and it requires them to follow the same standard of care that applies to in-person care in Florida. Providers generally need a Florida license, a multistate compact license that covers Florida, or a Florida registration as an out-of-state telehealth provider.

Do I need an in-person exam before starting GLP-1 treatment online in Florida?

Florida law does not require a physical exam before telehealth care when the provider's evaluation is sufficient to diagnose and treat you. Your provider decides whether an online evaluation is enough for your situation, and may ask for more information, lab work or an in-person visit with a local doctor first.

How can I check whether a provider is licensed in Florida?

Use the free Verify a License search from the Florida Department of Health (MQA Search Services). You can search by name or license number and see the license status and whether any discipline or public complaint is on file. Registered out-of-state telehealth providers can be found in the same search.

Does Forever Health Rx have a clinic in Miami?

No. Forever Health Rx is a telemedicine platform with no physical clinic. Your evaluation, follow-up and messages all happen online, and if a medication is prescribed, a licensed pharmacy ships it to you.

Does submitting an online evaluation guarantee a prescription?

No. A licensed provider reviews your health history and decides whether GLP-1 treatment may be appropriate. The provider may recommend a different plan, or no medication at all.
